Capture Your Journey - Camping Just the Two of Us

My husband and I have been married over 28 years and we camped this year for the first time alone.  We are eager to make this an annual adventure.  There is something to the quiet of the campsite in the early morning, a cup of coffee and not really having to be dressed to go anywhere.  I wore the same jeans for four days and it felt really good.

We camped close to home since my daughter is due soon with her little one and I didn't want to be far away in case the baby decided to come a bit early.

We kept our menu simple with some grilling and foil cooking so clean up was easy.  We used Starbucks instant coffee packets instead of taking the french press and even took a drive for an ice cream on a stormy night to get a relief from the rain for a bit.  Not really roughing it but truly enjoying our time together.

Our son Josh, Doug's dad and my daughter's family came for dinner one night and you can visit her post on that here.

The hiking, fishing and walks along Lake Michigan were such a joy to do together.  Holding hands, long walks and lots of time to just talk and be together.  I so love this man the Lord has gifted me with.  Just when I think it can't get any better or I couldn't find myself more in love with him - It does get better and I do find myself more in love with him than the day before.

Here's a little peek at our campsite and time.  We've came across the term "glamping" and I kinda like it - I do take quite a bit of home with me for comfort and making a home away from home.

Everything - including the kitchen sink

We love using the two room tent we used with the kids because it gave us a "family room" sitting area

I'm not fond of eating with bugs and this screened room goes up in minutes and makes it a joy to linger over our dinner together minus the mosquitoes.

From Starbucks Instant Coffee (which is pretty tasty) to hot chocolate my tea kettle from home comes in handy.  I am thankful for the propane stove to cook eggs, pancakes or heat up chili quickly and easily.  We have quite a bit of rain so our fire was pretty non-existent.

My kitchen sink ;)

This one has been a favorite read - I highly recommend it.

A Campsite favorite Banana Boats - Slice a banana and toss in chocolate chips, marshmallows and some peanut butter if you would like.  Wrap in foil and set over the hot coals for a bit.

Just some simple foil packets - One with Chicken and Veggies and the other with Potatoes, onions and cheese.  Love the easy clean-up.

Doug has been fishing since he was a little guy - I love just sitting and watching him.

Beautiful hike along the lakefront

So peaceful

Favorite spot in the mornings.

  4. Thank you for writing this Marci. As we go through changes in our family dynamics with our young adult children, it encourages me to think that maybe my husband of 28 years and I can enjoy the same in years to come.

  6. Hi, Marci! :) I'm stopping by from the GREAT bloggers group. We just returned from a family vacation at the campground, and I had the same thought that it would be nice for my husband and I to go alone sometime! Something about getting out in creation makes me feel closer to the Lord (not to mention how relaxing it is). Happy to "meet" you here!
